Aim
We at Animal Angels aim at involving more and more professionals and like-minded people for the cause beneficial to both humans and animals. The goal of the therapy is to enhance the quality of human life through interaction with animals.
Our area of work: We have successfully introduced and implemented this therapy for mentally challenged children, autistic children, hyperactive children, physically disabled people, children with hearing and speech impairment, children with developmental disability, Cancer patients, AIDS orphans, children with learning disabilities, and People with post-traumatic stress disorder. We are also implementing AAT in hospitals – an area which is unexplored and unknown in India. We have our teams operating in Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore, and will soon reach out to more cities across India.
What we do can be categorized into four areas:
1. Providing Animal Therapy: Animal Angels has been a pioneer in creating the field of Animal Assisted Therapy in India.Right from our first project of implementing AAT for mentally challenged children in 2003 to introducing AAT in hospitals in India. Animal Angels has been active in implementing AAT in different areas of mental and medical health as well as social and academic sector. We are currently working with children with developmental disabilities, adults with mental retardation, children with learning disabilities, rehabilitation centers in hospitals etc.
2. Conducting research: We at Animal Angels conduct scientific research on effects of animal therapy in various fields and document it for further reference. We have conducted India’s first documented research study on AAT and its effect on mentally challenged children and on AAT for Autism. This being a new field, a lot of research is yet to be done and a lot to be discovered
3. Training: We provide training to students and animal enthusiasts who want to learn more about AAT. We also train pet owners who want to train their pet as a therapy animal and volunteer with us. We have a special training program for mental health professionals who want to incorporate animals in treating people.
4. Awareness programs: Not many people are aware of the miraculous healing effects of animals. Many people who own pets are blind to this fact. There is a huge scope of implementing AAT in various aspects of human health. Our basic goal is to educate people about animal therapy and the benefit of the human-animal bond. We conduct awareness programs at schools, colleges, community centers and hospitals. |
