Times of India - Newspaper in Education

Newspaper in Education (NIE), a students' edition of Times of India is a part of the world wide Newspaper In Education program that is designed to help students evolve into well-informed individuals with the help of the newspaper. A Times Group venture, NIE has been running in various cities in India since 1989. Since its inception in Pune in 1991, it has grown to encompass 70 member schools and over 20,000 member students.

Animal Angels has partnered with Times NIE - Pune, where we conduct Animal Assisted Reading sessions using the newspaper in various schools through out Pune. Our Reading Buddies visit different schools for NIE workshops and help children improve their reading skills. Reading Buddy Masti (Labrador), Bobo (Pug) and Krunk (Labrador) form the team for NIE worshops.

Many children find it boring to read a newspaper, many find it difficult to read out aloud. Some children are afraid of making spelling mistakes while reading out aloud or of other children laughing at them. When a child reads out a newspaper to a dog, he is not laughed at or taunted for making mistakes. The dog is a patient listener who helps the child to read at his own pace. The dog also helps them learn listening skills.
