Mookdhwani School, Vile Parle

Mookdhwani is a school for hearing and speech impaired children in Vile Parle, Mumbai. The school is run by Utkarsha Mandal which aims at providing various therapies to these children.

Therapy dog Aekon and  Therapy dog Appy are the visiting dog who comes to the school once a week and interacts with the children. They helps the elder children in dealing with emotional and behavioral problems. He also helps the smaller kids to open up and to express themselves.

Animal Angels volunteers Dr. Shweta Sohoni a physiotherapist and Madhura Lonkar a psychology student, conduct the therapy sessions with Aekon and focus on the speech and expression of the children.

During the session one of the special educator who also teaches sign language to the children is also present. Together they have taught different commands to the children which they practice with Aekon. Teachers at the school say that these children, who sometimes feel misfit among their own siblings or friends who can speak, have take on to Aekon as their best friend. They can communicate with Aekon even though they cannot speak and Aekong responds back to them.
